Blue Line Arts, Roseville, California announced the winners this week of its Membership Medley exhibit. Among the chosen pieces were a custom sterling and pearl necklace created by Stevens Point silversmith, Joan North. The exhibit has become one of the most highly anticipated events of the year and runs from July 27 to September 8. North manipulates sterling sheet and wire to create unusual designs, often including unusual semi-precious stones. The necklace, “Outa My Way” at Blue Line Arts shows a pearl trying to escape a maze of intersected sterling wire. Also, this past spring/summer North's jewelry has been accepted into the following juried exhibits: Lancaster County Art Association, Strasburg, PA "Open Door"; New Visions Gallery, Marshfield, WI "Culture & Agriculture"; Riverfront Arts Center, Stevens Point, WI "Visions"; and Center for the Visual Arts, Wausau, WI "Roots - the Growth from Within". Joan is a full time, award-winning silversmith whose jewelry is shown at galleries, museums and exhibits coast to coast, most recently in California, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, Ohio, and Arizona. North has been operating Joan North Designs for eighteen years in her Stevens Point Studio. She is represented by various galleries across the country and locally at Q Gallery, Riverfront Arts Center and Center for the Visual Arts.
