Michael Thee Solo Showing Now Open at the Leenhouts Gallery

15 Sep 2016 6:36 PM | Robert Dickey
Photography by WDCC member Michael Thee is now on display at the Leenhouts Gallery, 1342 N. Astor St. on Milwaukee's lower east side. The gallery is operated by the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee.

The photos on display are from Michael's "Abandonment Issues" series. He explores former industrial sites, pipe graveyards, and old farmsteads, and these abandoned spaces become colorful abstract compositions that capture beauty but nudge us toward closer contemplation: What once took place here?

A photographer since age 12, Michael studied fine arts with an emphasis on photography at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and graduated with honors from Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College's program in jewelry fabrication. Today he is able to combine his love of photography with his talents as a goldsmith and independent studio jeweler in his business, Michael Thee Studio.

The gallery/common room is open most weekdays as well as weekends. Between Sunday morning services, church members gather for coffee and connection in the room. You can call ahead at 414-273-5257 to be sure the room is available for viewing the photos. The show closes Oct. 22.
