Q Artists Cooperative, Stevens Point, announced that its upcoming exhibit, “Stones and Gems in Art” will feature over eighty pieces of jewelry created by silversmith Joan North whose works highlight the rainbow of color and diverse forms found in natural stones and gems. North’s necklaces, rings, pins and bracelets incorporate agate, sodalite, rhodonite, jasper, rhodochrosite, malachite, topaz, peridot, jade and many more. North says “Stones and Gems in Art” is a reboot of Wausau’s Center for The Visual Arts “Stoned” Invitational Exhibition from 2017.
“Stones and Gems in Art” runs from May 8 through June 30. Opening reception is May 11 from 5 to 7pm
What kind of art comes from the concept of WINDOWS? The Art League of Lincoln, Lincoln, California chose that concept for its most recent nationally juried art exhibit, Windows: A Theme Challenge. This March 21 to April 21 exhibit will include two window-themed jewelry pieces from silversmith Joan North of Stevens Point, WI. North's Stained Glass Pearl necklace suggests a pearl sitting on the other side of a sterling stained glass window. Window to the Future necklace focuses attention on the empty portal in the middle of a sterling frame to suggest that the future can be anything.

Our December studio visit to the Jewelers Guild studios in St. Francis, brought us back together for a March metalsmithing workshop. The “Carve it, Cast It, Wear It” workshop is a 2 day, all inclusive workshop. The workshop is a 12 hour casting workshop offering two days of hands on sessions for professional artists and novices alike. This is an opportunity to learn the techniques of casting in silver. The workshop will include knowledge and experience in carving wax, centrifugal casting processes, and fine metal finishing. Cast a ring or pendant of your choice, and cater this workshop to your professional needs and experience. Our experienced and charming host Robert Devoe Peter will guide us through a rigorous 2 days of creative production, professional networking and shared experiences.
